In this episode of Shropshire Creative Conversations, Sam and Vicky wrap up their chat with Chris Carr, owner of Sailhouse Cars, looking back at some of the biggest successes and challenges of running Volvo Shrewsbury and AION Shrewsbury.
From winning multiple Volvo awards to recently opening the AION showroom in Shrewsbury, Chris reflects on some of his proudest moments, including surviving COVID, finding creative ways to move forward, and receiving recognition from his peers.
But for Chris, success isn't just about awards. He's proud of the team he's built and the familiar faces he gets to see at work every day. We chat about company culture, why integrity matters, and doing the right thing even when nobody's looking.
Chris also opens up about the challenges of his first two years in business, going from being a sales director to running a company and having to learn every aspect of the role. Having never expected to own a business, he's now running his second, and the lessons from those early years have helped him spot potential challenges much earlier with AION.
His advice for business owners: “Those who run fast don't run long.”
In the Creative Section, Sam and Vicky chat about spotting AI content. How it's becoming mixed in with the content we see every day, and what the future might look like. But with all the questions around AI, how can it be used for good?
